On the Possibility of Wrong Translations

This work of studying the Deep State has many facets. Today I encountered a video (3) that contained a translation of a speech by Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. In that video Netanyahu talked about plans to build new settlements in the Gaza Strip, at least so it seemed, based on the subtitles. Since I had written before about the genocide taking place (1), and Israel’s tendency to bomb other nations with impunity (2), I was rather baffled by this idea, and that Britain’s prime minister Rishi Sunak might even support such a move (5).

So, I started writing a critical article, but later on I discovered that it was based on a false translation. He wasn’t talking about settlements in Gaza, but he was talking about settlements near the border with Gaza (7,8). Below you can watch the video with this small, but highly relevant, translation error.

BEWARE OF TRANSLATION ERRORS
So, what I learned from this, is that we need to be aware of the possibility that certain translations are either intentionally false, or due to an error in translation. During these times when automatic translations are becoming the norm, we should be extra vigilant because it can easily create all kinds of unnecessary responses.

During Tucker Carlson’s recent interview with Pavel Durov, Durov said something that is quite appropriate in this current context, namely that ” [Telegram] is a platform that is neutral to all voices, because we believe that the competition of different ideas can result in progress and a better world for everyone” (9).

The same goes for X (Twitter). Because Barak Gorot (7) added that the video contained a wrong translation, the initial ‘outrage’ could be neutralized. Just like this link to a reuter articles that was based on the right translation (8).
