I decided to return to the GeoEngineering Documentary ‘The Dimming’ (1). Although I initially was curious to find out more about this technology to reflect sunlight back as a tool to ‘fight global warming’ (2), I got interested in a concept that you might call ‘cloud stealing‘. We have been reflecting a bit about cloud seeding lately (3-5), but what about cloud stealing? Let’s start off with this short 30 seconds excerpt from ‘The Dimming’ (1):

The excerpt above (7) stems from an airforce research paper from 1996 (8). In the ‘Operation Popeye‘-article (9) you can watch a video in which retired US Air Force Major General, Richard H. Roellig, said that he is absolutely sure that the United States has developed technology to use weather modification as a weapon against their enemies.

So, perhaps former Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wasn’t just saying something silly when he claimed in 2011 and 2012 that the West was using their weather-modification techniques to actually ‘steal’ their rain by making sure that the clouds would empty our their rain before it reached the Iranian territory? (10,11)

In 2024 this subject was once again brought up. This time between Iran and Turkey:

“Over the past two months, photos have been circulating on platforms showing contrasting weather conditions in Turkey and Iran. While Turkey exhibits cloudy skies and snow-covered mountaintops, just across the border in Iran, there appears to be nothing but empty skies and dry mountains. What seems to be a stark difference in rainfall and snowfall patterns between two neighboring countries has since raised questions among Iranians as to why.” (12)
