The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, was given an exceptional position in NATO on June 12, 2024. In a meeting with Jens Stoltenberg (1), the Secretary General of NATO in Budapest, they agreed that Hungary would not contribute in any way to the war in Ukraine.

During a press conference (4) Orban explained that Hungarian troops will continue to partake in various NATO missions. He also said that Hungary was fulfilling the rule which says that a country needs to spend 2% of its GDP (Gross Domestic Product) on Defense.

During the elections the people in Hungary massively voted for peace in Ukraine, but since most of the NATO countries, currently prefer to fuel the war in Ukraine, they felt obliged to make this comprimise: NATO can continue with their war-support, but Hungary will not be a part of it.

Let’s hope many more nations will soon follow the example of Hungary. Perhaps Slovakia will be the next nation? (5) As far as I am concerned the best outcome of the Ukraine war would be the ultimate collapse of both NATO and the European Union.
