Discrimination of Russian People

At school we were taught that it is immoral to discriminate between people on the basis of their sex, their race, their religion or their nationality. Perhaps we should add medical (vaccination) status to this list too. In daily life, however, we have seen that these ideals are not always upheld. During the covid-scare people who refused to subject themselves to experimental gene therapy, were discriminated against (1). This post collects examples of the discrimination of people from Russia, just because they are Russians.

OLYMPICS
In an earlier article we mentioned the Estonian city of Narva, that borders Russia, of whom 95% speak Russian. Plans are rolled out to force these people to bring their children to schools where no classes will be taught in Russian any longer. If you take a look at (2) you can see a video where the Estonian perspective is clearly shown during the celebration of Victory’s Day.

In June 2024, the father of a Russian Wrestling Champion died in the war in Ukraine. On instagram, Dinara Kudaeva, she posted a photo of her father and added that he is her hero. Two other wrestlers showed their support by liking her message (3,4).

This triggered three Ukrainian officials, amongst them the president of the Ukrainian Olympic Committe, Vadim Guttsait, to request the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to ban all three of them for they showed support of the war.

The IOC only allows Russian and Belarussian athletes to participate in the Summer Games in France under a neutral status (5).
