On August 1, 2024 there was a historic exchange of prisoners between Russia and the United States (1,2). This article focuses on one of the people that were returned to Russia, Vadim Krasikov. Why was he so special to Putin?
THE INTERVIEW BETWEEN TUCKER CARLSON AND PRESIDENT PUTIN
In February 2024 Tucker Carlson did a ground breaking interview with the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin (3). During that interview they talked about the American journalist Evan Gershkovich (4,5) and the Russian imprisoned in Germany, Vadim Krasikov. Some argue that the interview set the stage for the swap of prisoners (4).
PUTIN ON KRASIKOV
But why was Putin so keen on getting Krasikov back to Russia? Why was he in this German prison? In the excerpt below you can hear the explanation, which covers a rather gruesome tale, committed by Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, the Chechen man that was killed by Krasikov in Berlin in 2019 (6).
Putin said: “That person [Krasikov], due to patriatic sentiments, eliminated a bandit in one of the European capitals. During the events in the Caucasus, do you know what he [the bandit] was doing? I don’t want to say that, but I will do it anyway. He was laying down our soldiers who had been taken prisoner of war on the road and then he drove his car over their heads” (7)
I thought it only fair to also mention this. Somehow this aspect has gone missing in the reports on the prisoners exchange in our Western media.
