On November 26, 2024 the European Federation of Journalists decided that it would stop posting on X from the moment president Trump is inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States of America. This article provides some background on the phenomenon that journalists and news papers are leaving the X-platform.

THE EUROPEAN FEDERATION OF JOURNALISTS
On their website we can read the following about the size of this group of journalists: “The European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), the only European trade union federation of journalists on the continent, is the largest organisation of journalists in Europe, representing over 295.000 journalists. The EFJ brings together 73 journalists’ unions and associations in the following 44 countries:” (1)

Obviously quite a big organization.

WHY DOES THE EFJ WANT TO LEAVE ‘X’?
The decision to leave Twitter/X was explained on their website and on X (2,3). The main reason is as follows:

“Like many European media outlets (The Guardian (4), Dagens Nyheter (5), La Vanguardia (6), Ouest-France (7), Sud-Ouest (8), etc.) and journalists’ organisations, such as the German Journalists’ Association (DJV,9), the EFJ considers that it can no longer ethically participate in a social network that its owner has transformed into a machine of disinformation and propaganda.” (2)

The EFJ-president Maja Sever has said: “We cannot continue to participate in feeding the social network of a man who proclaims the death of the media and therefore of journalists. The social media site X has become the preferred vector for conspiracy theories, racism, far-right ideas and misogynistic rhetoric. X is a platform that no longer serves the public interest at all, but the particular ideological and financial interests of its owner and his political allies.” (2)

The article ends by words from the Secretary General of the organization, Ricard Gutiérrez where he invites their “affiliates and all organisations that defend freedom of expression to migrate to other platforms” (2)

CITIZEN JOURNALISM VS CORPORATE JOURNALISM
In another article (11) we quoted Elon Musk as saying: “A lot of things that traditional journalists don’t like being put on the same platform as the average citizen. They don’t like their voice being the same. They are pretty mad about that.

I think it is very important to elevate citizen journalism. I think it is very important to hear the voice of the people, the actual voice of the people and not the filtered voice of the people.

And let the people choose the narrative and let the people determine the truth and not five editors in chief of major publications. Do you want to know what is really going on, or do you want their opinion?” (11,15)

THE LEGACY MEDIA AS DISINFORMATION AGENTS
General Flynn spread a text that aptly explains why the American people voted for Donald Trump (12). A big element in his story was the role of the media that turned out to be lying and disinforming about many matters. Many people have lost faith in the corporate media, at least in the United States. Europe is still lagging behind when it comes to this.

SOME FINAL REFLECTIONS
Journalists and the media used to be the sole distributors of the news. Due to platforms like X the people have been given a chance to let their voices be heard, including the voices of people who go against the globalist narratives that often are promoted by the legacy media (13). We have described many examples of censorship when it comes to topics like the climate, the vaccines and the covid pandemic, Ukraine and the woke hysteria.

The legacy media parrot governments and questionable organizations like the WHO, EU, NATO and the United Nations. More and more people are fed up with being manipulated. Instead of looking themselves in the mirror, journalists blame a platform like X for their own failures. I think that by leaving the app that most likely is the #1 news app in the world, they will marginalize themselves even more.
