Triggered by some rumors on the possibility of the presence of a certain bacteria in the fog from the beginnings of 2025 (1-3), I ran into a ‘funny’ experiment that was performed by the US Navy in September 1950. Back then they apparently released a bacteria called ‘Serratia Marcescens‘ from the ocean for six days, so it would cover the city of San Francisco. The goal was to establish how easy it would be to use bio-warfare on a city.
This experiment remained hidden until a subcommittee hearing in 1977 (4,10,11). We have paid attention to similar secret experiments, like the British spraying of Zinc-Cadmium on their citizens (5). It also reminded me of the ‘little nuclear explosion’ that British soldiers were exposed to, in order to test the effects of it (6).
Below you can watch Joe Scott talk about not only this experiment but many other secret experiments that were performed in the 1950s and 1960s on civilians (7). It needs to be said that at the time people thought that this bacteria – which was relatively easily detectable because of its red color – was rather harmless. Apparently new insights concluded that serratia marcescens isn’t that harmless (9).
