Ever since Trump was inaugurated for his second term as president of the United States, it seemed as if no day passed by without an executive order or some other revolutionary development. It can be hard to keep up with everything that is happening, so I decided to just pick out one interesting new element related to the future press conferences a the White House.
Below you can hear Karoline Leavitt, the new Press Secretary, introduce a new approach that fits the basic idea of a press conference, namely to make sure that the messages are spread to as many people as possible (1).
She says that many people have lost faith in the legacy media and that therefore the press room is allowing in independent people that also reflect the new media landscape. Podcasters, independent journalist, social media influencers who produce news related content can apply for a press pass and be allowed inside of the white house press room (after being vetted by the secret service of course).
Just image Tucker Carlson, Ian Carroll (2), Benny Johnson (3) or anyone who holds these huge youtube, facebook, X -accounts appear in the white house press room, asking their questions! This must be quite embarrassing for the legacy media. Let’s see if other nations will follow this example.
