On France and Manipulation Attempts in Elections in Romania and Moldova through Telegram

It is no secret that the European Union doesn’t like nations with a sovereign agenda. Hungary and Slovakia are often seen as a nuisance to the roll out of their globalist agenda. We have seen how they managed to make sure that there would not be a third EU-country added to the list of sovereign nations, especially not with a president who is critical to NATO and the way the EU keeps on prolonging the senseless war in Ukraine.

Of course I am talking about the disgraceful way democracy was bypassed through the influence of the European Union (1,2). We have seen the same nasty game being played in former soviet countries that may potentially become part of the Euopean Union, like Moldova (3) and Georgia (4,5).

They eventually failed in Georgia, but they succeeded in Moldova.

FRANCE, TELEGRAM AND MOLDOVAN ELECTIONS
France seems to be playing a dirty role when it comes to disrupting elections in other countries. Let’s see how they tried to make a deal with Pavel Durov, the head of Telegram (6,7). In a post on X on September 28, 2025, Durov wrote about the way he was contacted by the French intelligence services, right before the Moldovan Presidential elections:

“About a year ago, while I was stuck in Paris, the French intelligence services reached out to me through an intermediary, asking me to help the Moldovan government censor certain Telegram channels ahead of the presidential elections in Moldova.

Moldova, in between Romania and Ukraine (15)

After reviewing the channels flagged by French (and Moldovan) authorities, we identified a few that clearly violated our rules and removed them. The intermediary then informed me that, in exchange for this cooperation, French intelligence would “say good things” about me to the judge who had ordered my arrest in August last year.

This was unacceptable on several levels. If the agency did in fact approach the judge — it constituted an attempt to interfere in the judicial process. If it did not, and merely claimed to have done so, then it was exploiting my legal situation in France to influence political developments in Eastern Europe — a pattern we have also observed in Romania

Shortly thereafter, the Telegram team received a second list of so-called “problematic” Moldovan channels. Unlike the first, nearly all of these channels were legitimate and fully compliant with our rules. Their only commonality was that they voiced political positions disliked by the French and Moldovan governments. We refused to act on this request. Telegram is committed to freedom of speech and will not remove content for political reasons. I will continue to expose every attempt to pressure Telegram into censoring our platform. Stay tuned.” (8)

FRANCE, TELEGRAM AND THE ROMANIAN ELECTIONS OF 2025
France not only wanted Durov to censor voices of the opposition in Moldova, but also in Romania. Here’s a short summary of the main events that occurred in May 2025 (quotes from Grok (9), with links to the original articles):

On May 18, 2025 (the day before the runoff), Durov claimed that Nicolas Lerner, DGSE director since 2024, personally asked him during a spring 2025 meeting in Paris to “silence conservative voices” by banning right-wing Romanian channels and comments on Telegram. Durov said this was intended to suppress opposition to Dan and ensure a pro-EU win, and he refused the request.” (9, 10)

Nicolas Lerner (16)

….On May 23, 2025, Durov escalated by stating Lerner visited Romania just two days before the runoff (around May 16), meeting with Romanian intelligence heads before traveling to Moldova. He cited Romanian journalist Marius Tuca as the source and linked it to a statement by French MEP Valérie Hayer (a Macron ally) that “everything would be done” to secure a pro-European Romanian president.” (9,11)

In a tweet from May 24, 2025, Durov added: ““We will do everything on the ground to ensure that the next Romanian president is pro-European,” said Macron’s closest ally and key party member Valérie Hayer to France Info on May 10, 2025. So what did the head of French intelligence do in Romania a few days after this promise?” (12).

SOME REFLECTIONS
It seems obvious that France is playing a censoring role by trying to coax Durov to remove Telegram channels that have a critical tone towards the European Union, both in Moldova and in Romania. People like Valérie Hayer and Nicolas Lerner are not the only French people obsessed with censoring unwanted voices. We have seen how Thiery Breton tried to censor Elon Musk’s X by threatening Musk in a letter (13,14).
