Right after the start of Russia’s military operation inside of Ukraine, the European Union put two Russian news outlets on their black list: the Russian RT and Sputnik were both censored (1). The European Union wanted to protect their citizens from the endless disinformation from the Russian websites and channels.
In May 2024 the European Union added four other Russian news outlets to their list, namely the Czech Voice of Europe, RIA Novosti, a leading Russian news agency, and the veteran newspapers Izvestia and Rossiyskaya (2).
I have shared my doubts about the European Union before. Take for instance Ursula von der Leyen’s shady 71 billion euro deal with various pharmaceutical companies (5). I also consider censorship as something that should be avoided.
Who are the people in Brussels to decide for millions of Europeans what they are allowed to watch and read? Who gets to decide what is disinformation and what is not? ‘Deep State’ players like the EU don’t want anyone to attack their narratives: they simply prefer to have citizens that embrace their gender-ukraine-climate-vaccine narratives without thinking twice (6).
Perhaps they will follow in the footsteps of Brazil who wanted to ban the X-accounts of certain journalists (7); they might use the ban-list of the Ukrainians to target journalists who also defy the EU-narratives on what is really happening in Ukraine (8).
And what to do about Prime Ministers within the European Union themselves who keep on saying things that go against the EU Narratives? So far they can only target them verbally, and demonize them through their media, thereby contributing to a climate where people feel emboldened to assassinate those with different opinions (9).
