After Elon Musk took over Twitter it didn’t take him long to show the world how much the federal agencies had exerted their powers to censor voices that they deemed unwanted (1).
In Brazil there has been a lot of censoring as well, especially during the elections of 2022. In the video below (2) you can hear G. Gayer (3) talk about the censoring of free speech by the Brazilian establishment up until this very day during a meeting at the European Parliament. In the above video you can hear Gustavo Gayer say things like:
“There are hundreds and hundreds of political Prisoners. Many of you may think I’m talking about Nicaragua, maybe Cuba, or Venezuela. I’m talking about Brazil. Alexandre De Moraes ordered Twitter to censor all of the right-wing politicians, to delete posts, delete profiles, and forced them to delete them but not say it was part of a judicial order. Brazil is the battleground for this new type of dictatorship; a dictatorship that identifies as a democracy.” (3)
Elon Musk is having his own argument with this same judge in 2024. He fully supported the above speech (5). You might remember the visit by the director of the CIA who wanted to help Brazil in fighting ‘disinformation’ (7). Whenever governments talk about ‘fighting disinformation‘ all alarm bells should start ringing.
