In this article we discuss an article by Lyons-Weiler & P. Thomas from 2020 in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (1). I was drawn to this article because it was mentioned in an interview (2) that Del Bigtree (3) did with dr. Peter McCullough (7). You can find the relevant part of that interview in the video excerpt below. In that part dr. Peter McCullough describes how he had begun to question the Childhood Vaccine Schedule, when he noticed that the Covid-19 vaccine was added to that schedule.
He makes a case for pausing the Childhood Vaccine Program altogether and he names a few studies that seem to imply that unvaccinated people are healthier than vaccinated people. One of them was a study done by Weiler and Thomas in 2020 that concluded: “The data indicate that unvaccinated children in the practice are not unhealthier than the vaccinated and indeed the overall results may indicate that the unvaccinated pediatric patients in this practice are healthier overall than the vaccinated” (1)
THE STORY ON THE 2020 WEILER & THOMAS ARTICLE
You can read the article for free at (1). I will only give a short description of the grist of the article. The researchers came up with this idea that the number of office visits to the physician could be an indication for the overall health of a person. They used the data of the Integrative Pediatrics clinic that was run by Thomas, one of the researchers (10).
They then categorized certain areas of complaints like asthma, allergic rhinitis, behavioral issues, ADHD, Otitis Media, Ear Pain, Eye disorders, eczema, Urticaria and others. Having done that, they started to differentiate between the vaccinated and the unvaccinated (11), which led to the following results, where the orange lines indicates the vaccinated and the blue lines the unvaccinated.

It is quite obvious that these differences are rather striking: the vaccinated went to see the doctor way more than the unvaccinated.
WHAT HAPPENED AFTER THE PUBLICATION
When this study was published in november 2020 it apparently created quite a buzz on social media (10).
“The claim that unvaccinated children are healthier than vaccinated children is common in vaccine-skeptic and anti-vaccine circles. The claim was recently revived on Facebook after a study was published on 22 November 2020 in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health[1]. [Editor’s note: The study was retracted by the journal on 22 July 2021, because “the conclusions were not supported by strong scientific data”.]
Articles were also published promoting the study, such as this one by Collective Evolution and this one by Children’s Health Defense, a group that campaigns against vaccination. Both articles went viral on Facebook in early December 2020. These articles have received more than 11,000 interactions on Facebook, according to social media analytics tool CrowdTangle, while the study itself has received another 11,000 interactions. (10)“
As you can read in the above excerpt, the article was retracted (12) in July 2021. The authors had earlier added a small correction to the original article in January 2021 (14).
SOME REFLECTIONS
The conclusions of this study are a blow in the face for all those who believe that vaccinating your children is the best practice. We can only speculate on why this article was retracted. The reason given was that it was not supported by strong scientific data. In the critical analysis by an organization that is called Health Feedback (10) they were skeptical about the validity of counting office visits to signify health. They also said that the researchers were biased, because they are known to be critical towards vaccinations.
I don’t want to draw any conlusions. I just want to present you with this information and invite you to reflect upon this information yourself. Do you think that the number of visits to a physician says something about the health of a child, or do you think that it is unrelated? Let me hear your thoughts in the Gondolath Study Group (16). Robert Kennedy Jr. mentioned another study that compared DTP-vaccinated with unvaccinated children (17). As an encore I added the Immunization Schedules from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) in the footnote section.
In June 2024 I came across an interesting video in which one of the authors, dr. Thomas talked about this study (21)

(11) Since there were less unvaccinated in the practice than vaccinated they multiplied the number of unvaccinated with a factor to correct for this difference (1).
(12) We have spoken about huge numbers of retracted articles before. In that case, however, it was about articles that were retracted that were related to all kinds of claims related to Covid-19 and the vaccines. A lot of sloppy science there that was, however, actively used by the media to attack scientists that had more reservations (13)

((15) “Abstract: We performed a retrospective analysis spanning ten years of pediatric practice focused on patients with variable vaccination born into a practice, presenting a unique opportunity to study the effects of variable vaccination on outcomes. The average total incidence of billed office visits per outcome related to the outcomes were compared across groups (Relative Incidence of Office Visit (RIOV)). RIOV is shown to be more powerful than odds ratio of diagnoses.

Full cohort, cumulative incidence analyses, matched for days of care, and matched for family history analyses were conducted across quantiles of vaccine uptake. Increased office visits related to many diagnoses were robust to
days-ofcare-matched analyses, family history, gender block, age block, and false discovery risk. Many outcomes had high RIOV odds ratios after matching for days-of-care (e.g., anemia (6.334), asthma (3.496), allergic rhinitis (6.479), and sinusitis (3.529), all significant under the Z-test). Developmental disorders were determined to be difficult to study due to extremely low prevalence in the practice, potentially attributable to high rates of vaccine
cessation upon adverse events and family history of autoimmunity.
Remarkably, zero of the 561 unvaccinated patients in the study had attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) compared to 5.3% of the (partially and fully) vaccinated. The implications of these results for the net public health effects of whole population vaccination and with respect for informed consent on human health are compelling. Our results give agency to calls for research conducted by individuals who are independent of any funding sources related to the vaccine industry.
While the low rates of developmental disorders prevented sufficiently powered hypothesis testing, it is notable that the overall rate of autism spectrum disorder (0.361%) in the cohort is one-fifth that of the US national rate (1.851%). The practice-wide rate of ADHD was roughly half of the national rate. The data indicate that unvaccinated children in the practice are not unhealthier than the vaccinated and indeed the overall results may indicate that the unvaccinated pediatric patients in this practice are healthier overall than the vaccinated.” (14)
