In May 2024 Elon Musk reposted (1) a comment (2,3) about a study with a very worrying conclusion about the relationship between transgender surgeries and the number of suicide attempts. This article provides some background information to this study by Straub et al. (2024) (4).

We have spent some articles on this website reflecting on the rather extreme pushing of the transgender agenda by highly influential organizations, like the NASDAQ (5) and the media (6). We have spoken about the ‘Corporate Quality Index’ (7) and the quite illogical way that somehow Homosexuality was coupled to this Gender Change Movement (8).

THE STUDY BY J. STRAUB (2024)
You can access the study yourself at (4). In the abstract you can read the following: “Results Individuals who underwent gender-affirming surgery had a 12.12-fold higher suicide attempt risk than those who did not (3.47% vs. 0.29%, RR 95% CI 9.20-15.96, p < 0.0001).“

I only present a very simplified summary. For the scientific details I recommend reading the study yourself.

The study was set up by using the TriNetX database that contains information from over 90 million patients in the US. From this database the three groups or cohorts were selected of which the adults all had had an emergency visit. The differences between these three groups were as follows: adults who have had a gender affirming surgery (A); adults without a gender-affirming surgery (B) and adults who have had a vasectomy (9) or tubal ligation (10) (C).

In the table above you can see that the amount of suicide attempts was 12 times higher in group A than in group B. When you compare group A to group C after propensity-matching (11) you get lower numbers, namely 4.7 times as much. (12)

In the footnotes you can find a list of other studies who have confirmed this increased risk of suicide for people who have had gender affirming surgeries (13-16). In order to also provide some balance there is also a study by Park (17) who describes 15 cases of people who felt better after the surgery.
