In 2016 the then vice president of the United States, Joe Biden, bribed the Ukrainian president Pyotr Poroshenko with a billion dollars (1). If he didn’t fire the attorney general Shokin who was investigating the Burisma case in which his son Hunter Biden was involved (2), he could forget about that huge amount of money. Biden boasts about how successful his bribe was (1).

This article is about a seeming other attempt to get an Attorney General fired in foreign country. In this case the United States has put the well respected Guatamalan Dr. Consuelo Parras on a special sanctions list (8).

In the excerpt below you can hear her explain it herself (3). The funny thing in this case is that fairly recently, the US would have contributed to a law that would make it nearly impossible for a president to fire the Attorney General of the Public Prosecutor’s Office. This would help fight corruption within the government.

Now that the Prosecutor is investigating child trafficking and child abuse complaints by the ‘Save the Children’ organization (4) their own law seems to be in the way: they cannot order the president of Guatamala to simply fire its Attorney General.

SAVE THE CHILDREN
In April 2024 the Guatamalan police raided an office of ‘Save the Children’ as part of this investigation (4). FIGHTING CORRUPTION IN GUATAMALA’S NEIGHBORING COUNTRY
