On July 16, 2024 the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova suggested that the interview she did with the German edition of Compact was the cause for the banof the magazine and the raiding of its offices by the German Minister of Internal Affairs, Nancy Faeser (1-3).

In her post she links to the youtube-version of the interview that is blocked in Germany, but not in other countries (4). I also uploaded a version on Rumble (5). She said:

“I think the main reason is that the truth was announced, which is carefully hidden from the Germans (quotes from the interview): “Germany does not receive Russian gas only because Germany was forbidden to do so by the United States.” “Russia, the USSR have never proactively stopped gas supplies to Europe and the EU” “Technically, restoring gas supplies through the preserved line of the Nord Stream gas pipeline is a matter of several weeks.”

In the following interview (in German, 6) the editor-in-chief of Compact, Jürgen Elsässer tell us about the way everything related to Compact was confiscated by the German government, even their finances.

SOME REFLECTIONS
I have watched the interview myself and there really is nothing in it that can be called ‘far-right, antisemitic, racist’ or whatever terms the German government used to justify this ban. Jürgen Elsässer said in the above video, that they haven’t been convicted of anything in the past. It seems to be just another example of the way the elite wants to make sure that the people think the way they want us to think.

Opposing views, especially from Russia, are deemed disinformation by definition, no matter how logical the arguments are. This is in line with the many examples of censorship that seems to be flooding the Western world these days. You might think of the way TikTok is about to be banned in the US (7,8), X might get fined because they refuse government censorship (9) and of course the way Europeans are forbidden from watching Russian News websites or channels (10).
