Bladerunners Attack London’s ULEZ Cameras

In the video that forms the basis of this article (1) you can see a number of Ultra Low Emission Zone Cameras that were destroyed. This apparently happened in the night after the re-election of London’s mayor Sadiq Khan (2,5) on May 4, 2024.

BLADERUNNERS
A group of people don’t agree with the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) policy that was introduced by mayor Sadiq Khan (3) which means that “drivers of many diesel cars and vans and older petrol models in Greater London now have to pay a daily charge of £12.50 to drive within the massively extended zone.” (4). A group of protesters who call themselves ‘the Bladerunners’ have set the goal to destroy or disable every single camera that is used to fine drivers that enter this ULEZ (5).

Here’s a video that collects a camera purge in London after the reelection of London’s mayor Sadiq Khan (1)

SADIQ KHAN AND THE CLIMATE CHANGE NARRATIVE
In earlier articles we have mentioned the London mayor in the context of his leading role in the C40 Cities initiative (6). We have spoken about the way certain language is used to place people who drive that run of fossil fuel in a bad light (7). We are also gathering arguments that question the legitimacy for measures like the ULEZ, in the sense that the climate change narrative might be built on false premises.

We have written about the Urban Heat Island effect (8) and the fact that CO2 has never been a driver of temperature change, but a (slow) follower (9). On top of that we have seen that there are quite a few anomalies when it comes to this alleged link between CO2 and temperature change in the last 150 years (10).

Aside from the climate change and carbon dioxide arguments, the release of particulate matter by gasoline and diesel cars is often used. Electrical cars are promoted as the healthy and green alternative, but there are questions about that too: a study shows that because of the heavy batteries in electrical cars the output of particulate matter is even bigger than of many lighter gasoline cars (11).

The fact that Sadiq Khan is promoting C40 Cities, the ULEZ and the shaky man-made (through CO2) climate change narrative, especially during these times of increasing poverty due to the geopolitical and green policies of those in power, makes me understand the sentiment of the blade runners. It seems like just another example of a political elite that prefers to invest in their own little green climate obsessions than in the people they ought to serve. I also came across a video in which a drone puts a cover over one of these cameras (12).
